Neighbourhood Watch up and Running.

Britannia Village in conjunction with the Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) have formerly signed of on the creating of the BV NHW. A number of local residents have come forward as volunteers/conduits to feed information and NHWconcerns back via the coordinator and then to the Police.

The NHW is not a replacement for 999 or the Anti-social Behavior line. It works in conjunction with these services and liases to help resolve any persistent local problems.

  • To prevent crime by improving security, increasing vigilance, creating and maintaining a caring community and reducing opportunities for crime by increasing crime prevention awareness.
  • To assist the police in detecting crime by promoting effective communication and the prompt reporting of suspicious and criminal activity.
  • To reduce undue fear of crime by providing accurate information about risks and by promoting a sense of security and community spirit, particularly amongst the more vulnerable members of the community.
  • To improve police/community liaison by providing effective communications through systems such as the Neighbourhood Watch Ringmaster system, which warns Coordinators of local crime trends which they can disseminate to their scheme members, and by members informing the police of incidents when they occur.

If you would like to get involved then please email nhw@bvra.org.uk

The Royal Docks Safer Neighbourhood Team

Iis headed by Sergeant Anthony Galinis and is the police team dedicated to the Royal DocksCommunity Police . Their approach is community-led, based on the ideas and priorities of local people.

The idea is to go back to good old-fashioned localised policing, rebuilding links within the community and and focusing on the specific needs of residents.

The team are patrolling the area on a daily basis so do go up and talk to them if you see them around!

Number plate theft. Royal Docks SNT free securing service.

There has been a growing crime trend across the country whereby car number plates are being stolen to be used in crime.  This means that as well as the inconvenience and expense of having to get new number plates, the victim may also suffer from receiving summonses for unpaid parking/speeding/bus lane tickets, the congestion charge or even questioned regarding more serious crimes!

In an effort to combat this problem, the Metropolitan Police Service in partnership with Tate and Lyle, is offering to secure your number plates.

Crime Prevention Advice

Flat owners. Garages. Youths are now regularly targeting garages.
When you drive in or out you must check that the roller shutter comes down behind you. If you are on foot, use the ground floor doors to get access to the garage rather than the roller shutters.

All. Report everything. Use the links report security issues. Use it to let the police and neighbours know of any problems. The alternative is that you stand alone and hope the problem goes away. It will not go away. The police have to be given sufficient information to allow them to deal with the problem.
